Not for me-thanks anyway.

Thanks for your query. Mind sending along the first five pages of your manuscript in the body of an e-mail? I'd be happy to take a look and let you know whether the style is the best fit for me.

Thanks,

Dear Madam

Thank you for your email. For various reasons, including concentrating more on our existing clients, your material is not going to be for us. We thank you for thinking of us and wish you better luck elsewhere.

Dear Author,

I dislike having to send you a standard form letter as much as I'm sure you dislike receiving one. Unfortunately, the volume of unsolicited mail prevents us from giving more individual responses.

I did review your proposal, and I'm afraid I just didn't fall in love with it. The market is far too competitive for an author to be represented by anyone who's less than 100% enthusiastic about their work.

I appreciate the hard work and diligence needed to get in the door, and I applaud your efforts. Since this is a highly subjective business, you may well find success elsewhere, and we wish you all the best with your writing.

Sincerely,
Miriam Kriss

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your book. Due to the overwhelming number of submissions we receive, it is impossible for us to answer every query individually. However, after carefully considering your work, we have decided that your manuscript is not right for our list. Another agent may feel differently, and so we encourage you to submit this elsewhere and wish you the best in finding the enthusiastic representation you deserve.

Dear Ann Marie,
Thank you for querying me, but unfortunately I am going to have to pass at this time.
Please don't take this rejection as a comment on your writing ability, because it isn't intendedto be one. I'm sure another agent will feel differently. Best of luck to you with the submission process.

Dear Author, Please forgive this impersonal note. We receive a tremendous number of query letters and are forced to focus our attention on a limited number of projects. We regret that we must decline the offer to review your work. We encourage you to keep writing and we wish you every success.

Sincerely, Victoria Sanders

I am sorry to respond with an impersonal reply, but the volume of submissions to our office does not permit me to read email submissions. I am not currently taking on any new clients for my list. I appreciate your thinking of me, and hope you are successful finding the right agent for your work elsewhere.

Good luck and good wishes,

I think you have the right idea to publish yourself first and to sell rights to a traditional publisher after you've build an audience.

When you've built a readership, get back to me.

Two suggestions: offer a complete download file to people who will provide their info for your mailing list; clean up your line breaks to make the text easier to read on your web site.

Your chapters seem short, and you often end before the "McGuffin" as Hitchock says explodes.

Good luck,

Amanda

Thanks for your submission, but we receive many more than we can possibly sell, and have to be very selective. I hope yours receives a better reception elsewhere.

Adams Literary solely represents childrens and young adult authors. Your work does not sound like it would be a good fit for us.

Thank you for your interest.
All the best,
